Why I’m Ditching The Hustle Mentality (And You Should Too)

I used to believe that if I wasn’t running on caffeine and stress, I wasn’t doing enough. If I wasn’t checking my email at midnight or saying “yes” to every single opportunity, I wasn’t really building my business. Hustle culture had me in a chokehold, and let me tell you—it was not a good look.
But here’s the thing: the non-stop grind is not a badge of honor. It’s a one-way ticket to burnout, and trust me, I’ve been there. I’ve worked through lunch, skipped self-care, and let my personal life take a backseat in the name of “success.” And what did I get? Exhaustion, anxiety, and the realization that this isn’t sustainable.

I remember one particular moment when I knew something had to change. I was sitting at my desk at 2 AM, eyes burning, trying to push through “just one more task.” Meanwhile, my inbox was still filling up, my to-do list looked like a CVS receipt, and my creativity? Completely fried. That’s when it hit me—if this is what success looked like, I wanted a refund.
So, I made a change. I started prioritizing working smarter, not harder. I started setting boundaries. I started saying no. And guess what? My business didn’t crumble. In fact, it flourished. Turns out, well-rested, happy people actually get more done. Who knew?
If you’re feeling drained, overworked, and like you’re running on empty, it’s time for a wake-up call. Here’s how I ditched the hustle mentality and reclaimed my peace (without sacrificing my success):
1. I Stopped Glorifying "Busy"
For the longest time, I thought success meant constantly being on. Responding to emails at all hours, saying yes to every opportunity, and never allowing myself to slow down. But let’s be real—being "busy" doesn’t mean being productive. I had to unlearn the idea that my worth was tied to how much I had on my plate.
Instead of tracking hours, I started tracking impact. Am I actually moving the needle in my business? Or am I just spinning my wheels with endless tasks? If you feel like you’re constantly drowning in work but not seeing results, take a step back and ask yourself—are you busy, or are you being effective?
📌 Try a "priority audit." Write down everything you do in a day and highlight what actually moves your business forward. Cut the fluff!
2. I Started Taking Breaks (Without Guilt)
Taking a break used to make me feel lazy. If I wasn’t actively working, I felt like I was falling behind. But here’s the truth: rest is not a luxury. It’s a necessity. Burnout is real, and no amount of caffeine can fix it.
Now, I schedule breaks just like I schedule meetings. I take time to step away, reset, and recharge. And you know what? I get more done in less time because my brain isn’t running on fumes.
📌 Block off time in your calendar for breaks—even if it’s just 10 minutes. Step away from your screen, go for a walk, or do something you love.
3. I Outsourced and Automated
Let’s talk about one of the biggest game-changers: letting go of the need to do everything myself.
I used to think outsourcing was for people who were “further along” in their business. But the truth? Delegating earlier actually helps you grow faster. Whether it’s hiring a virtual assistant, using scheduling tools, or automating repetitive tasks, outsourcing frees up your time to focus on what you do best.
📌 Identify one task you hate doing but is necessary. Can you automate it? Delegate it? Start small and see how much time you get back. Need a little help getting started? Wix Automations can handle repetitive tasks for you—like sending follow-ups, confirming appointments, and more—so you can focus on what truly matters. Learn how to set up automations here!
4. I Redefined Success
Success isn’t about working 24/7. It’s about building a business that supports the life you actually want to live.
I used to think success meant constant hustle. Now, I measure success differently—by how much freedom I have, how much I enjoy my work, and how well I take care of myself along the way.
If you’re feeling stuck in the hustle mentality, ask yourself—what does success really mean to you? Is it working all hours of the day? Or is it creating something sustainable that allows you to live a life you love?
📌 Write down your definition of success. Does your current work-life balance align with that? If not, what needs to change?
